BHI The British Horological Institute The BHI was founded in London (Clerkenwell) in 1858. A group of watchmakers joining together to raise the standards of British horology. The British Horological Institute has permanent premises at Upton Hall. Horological training and education forms a major part of the Institutes activities. The British Horological Institute is the awarding body for Technical Horology examinations in the UK and abroad. The BHI museum has existed since the formation of the Institute. It is open to the public on certain week days. The British Horological Institute's library contains nearly 5000 volumes in many languages. |

Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council The Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council was founded in 1908 to encourage and promote excellence in craftsmanship and design in the areas of goldsmithing, silversmithing and the allied crafts in the UK. An annual competition is open to craftsmen and women where the Council recognises and rewards excellence in craft and design skills. To this end standards are kept remarkably high with the top prizes awarded for exceptional levels of achievement. The competition has 28 categories with the major patrons being Cartier and Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. |
